Our history and mission

The Germandat d’en Pau Pi Association was born from the passion to preserve and spread the carnival traditions of Lleida. Since our beginnings, we have worked to keep the flame of Carnival alive, organizing events, workshops and celebrations that bring together people of all ages.

Promote and preserve the figure of Pau-Pí, coordinating Lleida Carnival activities and encouraging citizen participation in traditional events.

Members of Brotherhood

Those who have been in the Brotherhood for more than two years have the honor of dressing in the same way as the first companions of His Majesty Pau-Pí did.

The characteristic features are:

  • A top hat with a mask with fringe hanging from the back.
  • A black dress with a white collar with a blue bow, three stripes of yellow, pink and blue on the arms with white ruffles.
  • Black stockings and shoes.
  • Black cane.

The now defunct Guasch store on Carrer Major collaborated in the creation of this clothing. Currently, Goretti Moda i Llar, in the Cappont neighborhood, collaborates with the clothing.

Pau-Pí figure

The figure of Pau-Pí is completely defined by its symbolic attributes,
which combine tradition, humor and festive elements.

The main ones are:

  • The giant hat, which visually represents the identity of the character.
  • The cape, which reinforces his character as His Majesty and gives him presence in the entourage.
  • The royal staff or Pau-Pí's Staff, which symbolizes the symbolic authority and the central figure of the party.

These elements, together with the active participation of the member chosen by
the Brotherhood, allow Pau-Pí to lead the Carnival acts with a satirical and playful character, combining humor, criticism and popular tradition in a recognizable and attractive way for the public.
