Shrove Tuesday Tupinada

Following the arrival of His Majesty Pau-Pí at the Pati de les Comèdies, the celebration of the Tupinada on Fat Thursday began, one of the most emblematic and deeply rooted activities of the Lleida Carnival.

The name “tupinada” comes from the old tupins, traditional containers used to prepare, preserve, and serve food, especially seasonal products such as cured meats, sausages, and other local culinary specialties.

Nowadays, the Fat Thursday tupinada consists of a meal featuring pork ribs, sausage, and loin. Dessert was provided by the Bakers’ Guild of the Lands of Lleida, who added the sweetest moment of the day with traditional Carnival cakes.
